Hot Tub Dome — a Rigid Clear Enclosure Sized Around Your Tub

A Domevora hot tub dome is a rigid hot tub enclosure: a solid polycarbonate shell on an aluminium base ring, set over a tub so you can soak under the sky in rain, wind or snow. Pick the size from your tub’s footprint plus walking space, then plan ventilation for steam. Round models that suit most tubs run from US$1,692 to US$3,466 EX-WORKS.

Short answer

Which dome fits a hot tub?

For a typical round tub about 1.8 m across, start with the Round 3.5 m High. For a square tub about 2.0 × 2.0 m, start with the Round 5.0 m. Those two picks come from the size check below, which uses the tub’s corners and a walking margin, not just its width.

Two limits to know before you buy. First, the shell is transparent and will collect steam and solar heat, so a hot tub dome needs a ventilation plan — it does not stop condensation on its own. Second, the dome and the filled tub both bear on the foundation; a local professional should confirm the base can carry both.

The image above shows a Domevora shell for product context. It is not a photographed hot tub installation.

Size check

Work out the minimum dome diameter for your tub.

A rectangle fits inside a circle when its diagonal is no longer than the circle’s diameter. Add your walking margin to each side of the tub, then take the diagonal:

Minimum plan diameter = √((tub length + 2 × margin)² + (tub width + 2 × margin)²)

For a round tub, it is simply tub diameter + 2 × margin. The examples below use a 0.6 m margin; choose your own figure for steps, cover lifting and cleaning access.

Tub (example input) Arithmetic with 0.6 m margin Minimum plan diameter First model to check
Round, Ø 1.8 m 1.8 + 1.2 3.0 m Round 3.5 m High
Square, 2.0 × 2.0 m √(3.2² + 3.2²) 4.53 m Round 5.0 m
Square, 2.3 × 2.3 m √(3.5² + 3.5²) 4.95 m Round 6.0 m

Why the pick is one size up from the minimum: the shell curves inward as it rises, so the clear width at tub-rim height is smaller than the plan diameter at floor level. Ask for the section drawing of the model you shortlist and check the tub rim, the cover in its open position and head height over the steps against it before ordering.

A swim spa is usually too long for the largest round model (Ø 6 m) once the walking margin is added. The formats to check are the Oval (3.5 × 5.5 m) and the Extended Oval (3.5 × 7.5 m); at 3.5 m wide they suit narrow swim spas only. Send us the swim spa’s length, width and height and we will check it against the oval section drawing before quoting.

Models

Round models used over hot tubs.

Model Plan size Height Floor area Shell weight Price, EX-WORKS
Round 3.5 m High Ø 3.5 m 3.0 m 9.6 m² 180 kg from US$1,692 fully configured
Round 4.0 m High Ø 4 m 3.0 m 12.6 m² 240 kg US$1,651–2,208 shell only to fully configured
Round 4.5 m Ø 4.5 m 3.2 m 15.9 m² 260 kg US$1,960–2,579
Round 5.0 m Ø 5 m 3.5 m 19.6 m² 290 kg US$2,167–2,847
Round 6.0 m Ø 6 m 3.5 m 28.3 m² 370 kg US$2,682–3,466

Smaller rounds (2.1 m to 3.0 m) and the 4.0 m Low model are listed on the full model page; the same shells sold for seating and dining are on garden igloos. The 3.5 m High and 4.0 m High versions give more head height over tub steps than the low versions of similar diameter. Prices exclude foundation, freight, duties, electrical work and installation; see the 2026 price guide for what sits outside the price.

Steam and heat

Plan ventilation before you plan lighting.

Warm water puts moisture into the air, and that moisture condenses on the cooler shell. A clear shell also gains heat from the sun. The levers that handle both are the same ones used across our range:

Top-lift ventilation

Opens at the highest point, where warm, moist air collects. The first lever for steam.

Roof exhaust fan

Active air exchange when the tub is used for long sessions or by several people.

Opening windows

Low-level fresh air so the exhaust has something to replace it with.

Solar-control shell

Light-grey option with 70% light transmission and more than 80% infrared blocking, for sunny sites where daytime heat matters more than a fully clear view.

No transparent enclosure can promise zero condensation. Expect to run ventilation during and after use, and keep electrical equipment out of the path of dripping condensate. Drainage at the base should lead water away from the door. The condensation guide gives the shell temperature at which water starts to form for your room conditions.

Site and delivery

What your site has to provide.

  • A base designed for both loads. The tub full of water and people is far heavier than the shell. A local professional should design the slab or deck, the anchor positions and the drainage. We supply the base dimensions.
  • A way to get the tub in. The dome goes up in a fixed order: base ring, then lower panels, then upper panels and crown, then door and windows. If your tub will not pass the door opening, ask us whether it can be set on the platform before the shell is closed.
  • Electrical and water connections for the tub, done by local trades. They are not part of the dome kit.
  • Local approvals. A dome over a private garden tub and a dome over a tub you rent to guests can fall under different rules; check before ordering.

Every buyer receives step-by-step installation videos; the full assembly sequence is on installation and shipping.

Private or commercial

If guests use the tub, the duty is yours, not the dome’s.

The UK Health and Safety Executive treats spa pools and hot tubs used in a business as a foreseeable infection risk and publishes control guidance for operators. Other countries have their own rules. An enclosure does not replace water treatment, testing, cleaning records or a risk assessment.

Why rigid

A hot tub dome versus an inflatable bubble cover.

Domevora rigid dome Inflatable PVC bubble
Structure Solid polycarbonate panels bolted to an aluminium base ring PVC film held up by a blower
Power None needed to stay up Blower must keep running
Door Aluminium door Zip or tunnel entry
Warranty 7-year polycarbonate material warranty, written terms with the quote Varies by seller
Price Published per model, EX-WORKS Usually lower

If you only want occasional winter cover and a low budget, an inflatable cover may be the better buy. A rigid dome makes sense when the tub area should behave like a permanent room: a hot tub enclosure for winter that stays up all year. More on the difference: clear tents vs bubble tents.

Other ways to cover a tub

Hot tub gazebo, pergola or dome?

Most hot tub enclosure ideas come down to three things: a gazebo or pergola built over the tub, a hot tub shelter or canopy (the UK usually says shelter), and a closed dome. They solve different problems.

Gazebo or pergola

What it is: a timber or aluminium roof on posts, sides open or fitted with screens.

Weather: keeps rain and snow off; open sides let the wind through.

Sky and privacy: the roof blocks the sky unless glazed; screens or curtains give privacy.

Steam: escapes on its own.

Hot tub shelter or canopy

What it is: a roof on a lean-to or freestanding frame, sometimes retractable.

Weather: keeps rain off, with little protection from the side.

Sky and privacy: sky blocked or partly open; usually no side privacy.

Steam: escapes on its own.

Domevora hot tub dome

What it is: a closed shell of solid clear polycarbonate on an aluminium base ring.

Weather: closed on all sides; the tub area becomes a room.

Sky and privacy: clear overhead; curtains or privacy film on the lower panels.

Steam: needs a ventilation plan.

If you use the tub mainly in summer and want shade and privacy, a hot tub gazebo with sides or a pergola is the simpler buy. A dome earns its place when you want an enclosed hot tub all year: an outdoor hot tub enclosure closed against wind and snow, with the sky still overhead.

Not sure which one you need? Send us the tub size and the months you use it, and we will say plainly whether a dome is worth it or a gazebo would serve you better.

Ask which fits your tub

Questions buyers ask us

What size dome do I need for a hot tub?

Take the tub’s length and width, add your walking margin on every side, and calculate the diagonal. That is the minimum plan diameter at floor level. Then choose one size up, because the shell curves inward at tub-rim height. A 2.0 × 2.0 m tub with a 0.6 m margin needs at least 4.53 m, so start with the Round 5.0 m.

Will a hot tub dome stop condensation?

No. It shelters the tub, but steam still needs top ventilation, an exhaust path and drainage. Plan to ventilate during and after use.

How much does a hot tub dome cost?

Round models suited to most tubs cost from US$1,692 to US$3,466 EX-WORKS, depending on size and configuration. Foundation, freight, duties, electrical work and installation are extra.

Can the dome sit on the existing hot tub base?

Only if that base is designed for the dome’s anchors and drainage as well as the filled tub. Have a local professional check it.

Does it work as a spa or jacuzzi enclosure?

Yes. Size a spa, jacuzzi or plunge tub the same way as a hot tub: footprint plus walking margin, then one size up. The more often the cover is off, the more the ventilation matters.

What warranty does the shell carry?

A 7-year polycarbonate material warranty. Ask for the written terms with your quotation; they set out coverage, maintenance duties and exclusions.
