The material difference

Polycarbonate Dome vs PVC Bubble Tent: Built Like a Building

Domevora uses solid German Bayer polycarbonate, not temporary inflatable PVC film.

Definition

What a polycarbonate dome is.

A Domevora dome is a self-supporting shell of solid polycarbonate panels on a 6063 aluminium base ring. It holds its shape without a blower. The supplier specification lists about 91% light transmission and a material service range of −40 °C to 120 °C; these describe the material and do not establish indoor comfort, building approval or site structural capacity.

Why it changes the decision

A better material makes a better business case.

Hospitality

Protect the premium experience with a structure built for seasons, not a short-lived attraction.

At home

Invest in a space that stays clear and inviting for years, rather than replacing a temporary bubble.

Distribution

Lead with a visible, measurable lifespan advantage — not a price race against PVC.

Questions we are asked

Before you compare prices.

Is it the same as an igloo dome or a garden pod?

Those are naming conventions, not materials. An igloo dome, garden pod, bubble house or dome tent can be built from inflatable PVC film, thin PC film or solid polycarbonate sheet. Domevora builds only the last of the three.

Will it survive wind and snow?

For structural review, match the selected model, openings, anchoring and foundation to documented local wind, snow and other code requirements. Obtain the applicable supporting documents before committing to a site layout.

Does a clear dome overheat?

Solar gain depends on climate, orientation and operating hours. Consider shade, opening windows, top-lift ventilation and cooling together. For a solar-control shell, obtain the exact panel’s visible-light, solar and UV data and check a sample; tint alone does not determine room temperature.

Does polycarbonate yellow?

Domevora provides a 7-year polycarbonate material warranty. Obtain written coverage conditions, exclusions and the claim procedure with the quotation; material warranty is separate from structural or local building approval.

Can it stay outside all year?

The supplier material specification lists −40 °C to 120 °C, but the operating season of a room depends on its heating, ventilation and local climate. Specify the UV protection, cleaning method and replacement-panel provision in the order. Service life and warranty coverage should be assessed from the supplied material documents and written terms.

Why does it cost more than a bubble tent?

Compare the supplied configuration, site works, energy use, maintenance and replacement provision over your intended operating period. Published Domevora kits start at US$1,094 EX-WORKS on the stated price basis; a current written quotation and local costs are needed for a project-cost comparison. The other clear material

Polycarbonate dome or acrylic dome?

Compare the supplied panel grade, thickness and impact-test information with the proposed acrylic alternative. Material test results describe specified samples and conditions; they are not a whole-dome impact guarantee. Include cleaning, scratch resistance, replacement access and applicable fire documentation in the comparison. Glass is compared as well in polycarbonate vs glass vs acrylic domes.

When an acrylic dome is the right choice

Consider an acrylic enclosure where its supplied material data, supports, exposure conditions and intended use fit the project. Compare complete quotations and cleaning instructions; visual similarity alone does not establish cost or durability.

When it is not

Anything outdoors, year-round, with people inside it. Impact is the failure mode, and on a habitable shell that is a safety question rather than a maintenance one.
