Garden office pods

Garden Office Pod: a Clear Dome to Work in at the End of the Garden

A Domevora garden office pod is a rigid, solid-polycarbonate dome on an aluminium base ring: a small room with a door, a window and the sky overhead, delivered as a kit you bolt together. The four home sizes run from 3.3 m² to 9.6 m², from US$1,094 EX-WORKS. It works best as a morning, evening and winter office; a clear shell gains heat in sun, so a south-facing summer office needs shade and ventilation planned in from the start.

Short answer

Is a clear dome a good office pod?

For many home workers, yes: as a home office pod it is a separate room you walk to, with daylight on every side and a door you close at the end of the day. Three things decide whether it suits you. Where the sun is during your working hours. Whether you can run power to it. And how you will keep glare off the screen.

If you need to sit in it through a hot July afternoon in full sun without cooling, an insulated timber garden room is the better buy, and we would rather tell you that now. If your office hours are mornings, evenings or the cold half of the year, or the spot is partly shaded, a dome gives you a room that feels outdoors without the weather.

Choosing a size

Start from the desk, not the diameter.

Each size below is laid out from our factory furniture plans. All four are 2.55 m high at the centre except the Round 3.5 m High, which is 3.0 m.

Round 2.1 m · from US$1,094

Floor: 3.3 m², 120 kg.

Laid out for: a 1.0 m round table and two chairs.

As an office: one person, a laptop and a call. The easiest size to place on an existing patio.

Round 2.5 m · from US$1,300

Floor: 4.9 m², 130 kg.

Laid out for: a 1.2 m round table and four chairs.

As an office: one desk with room for a second chair or a small shelf.

Round 3.0 m · from US$1,445

Floor: 7.1 m², 160 kg.

Laid out for: a 1.4 × 0.6 m table with seating.

As an office: a full-size desk, storage and a chair for a visitor.

Round 3.5 m High · from US$1,692

Floor: 9.6 m², 180 kg, 3.0 m high.

Laid out for: a table for eight, or one 2 m bed.

As an office: two desks, or a desk and a small meeting table.

Prices are fully configured: shell and roof, aluminium door and window, base profile, LED light strip and curtains. Freight, duty, the base, power and the furniture are not included. Every size, with full dimensions, is on the model page, and the dome size guide shows how furniture fits each one. Using the space for yoga or meditation instead? See the garden yoga studio guide.

Before you order

What makes a clear dome work as an office.

Heat and light

A clear shell lets the sun in on every side. For a sunny site, choose the solar-control light-grey shell (70% light transmission, more than 80% of infrared blocked), add the manual or powered roof curtain, and plan top-lift ventilation or a roof exhaust fan. Where that is still not enough, a larger dome can take a floor-standing air conditioner you supply. How each option works.

Screen glare

Overhead sky light is what makes a dome pleasant and what washes out a monitor. Put the desk so the screen faces away from the brightest side, and close the roof curtain over the desk during the middle of the day. A laptop with a matte screen copes better than a glossy one.

Power and data

The dome arrives with no electrical installation beyond the LED light strip in the configured kit. Running a supply cable for sockets, a heater or air conditioning is work for a local electrician, and Wi-Fi reach from the house is worth testing at the spot before you choose it.

Winter and condensation

The shell holds its properties down to −40 °C and stays up all year. In cold weather a small heater keeps the room usable, and some ventilation stops condensation forming on the inside of the shell. See how to heat a dome and how to stop condensation.

Privacy

By day the dome is a window onto the garden. In the evening, with the lights on, anyone outside can see in. Curtains are included in the configured price; face the door away from the neighbours and keep lighting low.

Where it stands

It needs a flat, level base: a deck, paving or a concrete pad, with the base ring anchored. Two people can put the smaller sizes up in an afternoon. Rules for garden buildings differ by country and council, so check whether yours needs approval before you order. Base and anchoring.

Questions buyers ask us

How much does a garden office pod cost?

A Domevora dome used as a garden office costs from US$1,094 (Round 2.1 m) to US$1,692 (Round 3.5 m High) fully configured, EX-WORKS Suzhou. Freight, import duty, the base, electrical work and furniture are extra; we include a freight and duty estimate with the quotation when you send your address.

Will a clear office pod get too hot?

In direct summer sun, a closed clear shell will get hot. Choose a site with some shade during your working hours, add the solar-control light-grey shell and the roof curtain, and plan ventilation. If you need full-day summer use in strong sun, budget for an air conditioner or choose an insulated timber garden room instead.

Can I use it as an outdoor office all year?

The shell stays up all year and holds its properties from −40 °C to 120 °C. Comfort inside depends on heating in winter and on shade and ventilation in summer, so year-round use is a question of how you equip it, not of the shell.

Is it soundproof?

No. It is a solid shell, so it is quieter than a tent and keeps the wind out, but it is not an acoustic booth. For calls in a noisy setting, add soft furnishings and curtains, or choose a purpose-built acoustic pod.

Do I need planning permission for a garden office pod?

It depends on where you live, the size and where it stands on the plot. Many places treat a small garden building as an outbuilding with height and boundary limits; check with your local planning office before you order. We can send the product datasheet with dimensions and weights for the application; see project documents.

What warranty does it carry?

The polycarbonate shell carries a 7-year material warranty, with the written terms sent with the quotation. See warranty.
